Niclas Gillis

Called “the premiere talent to watch”, by Nike in 2017, Niclas Gillis is a US-based writer and director from Stockholm, Sweden.

Between 2014 and 2017, Gillis wrote and directed “Hold Me Down”, a drama short film about a day in the life of a 19-year-old single mother in the South Bronx. The film was based on true events and gave a voice to women survivors of sexual exploitation and domestic violence. Upon its US release, ‘Hold Me Down’ became a Vimeo staff pick and was universally lauded by critics. “Hands down near the very top of the list of the best films I’ve seen in 2018 and many other years as well” – Unseen Films

Having directed both New York models and legends like Willie Nelson, Gillis has a knack for getting unforgettable performances out of both experienced and untrained cast. He is currently in pre-production on his feature film debut with funding from the Swedish Film Institute.
